The mission of the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park is to manage and protect the unique environment along the Rio Grande, to educate the public about the Rio Grande ecosystem, and to foster positive human interactions with those systems.

Volunteer Training
6 Saturdays,  9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
January 30 to March 6, 2010

For six Saturdays beginning January 30 through March 6, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Nature Center will offer prospective volunteers the opportunity to delve into nature and the green future in their own community.  Focusing on the ecology of the Rio Grande Valley, educators will review the history of our great river and consider the impact of human activities as well as restoration measures currently underway.  Trainees will examine the birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and plants that make up the bosque's web of life; they'll also discover many ways to support the Nature Center - from work as an on-site naturalist, an outreach educator, or Nature Shop salesperson to serving as a receptionist, gardener, trail patrol worker, office assistant, and/or producer of special events.

Cost is $25 plus FRGNC membership ($15 for seniors, students, teachers, and the disabled; $30 for others).  For more information, call Karen Herzenberg or Tanja George at (505) 344-7240.
